Orcas Island has some wonderful vegan dining options, and they’re expanding more and more! Here is a guide to help you find delicious plant-based options on the island. (Edited June 7, 2021)

The Barnacle (Eastsound)
Craft cocktail bar and bistro with a creative selection of apothecary style cocktails featuring plant based tinctures, tonics and elixirs. Seasonal entrees include vegan options like beet tartare, or the summer house favorite roasted carrots with cashew-tahini and salsa seca.
Catkin Cafe (Olga)
Tofu sandwich is quite tasty, and can be vegan when ordered without the aioli. Huevos Rancheros can be made vegan. Select soups are vegan. House-made sourdough bread is vegan, too. Specials often include dishes such as tofu coconut milk curry or tofu noodle salad. Open to vegan requests to modify items on the menu – just ask!
Doe Bay Cafe (Olga)
Emphasis on local, fresh, farm/garden-to-table dishes. Menu changes with the seasons, but there is almost always at least one excellent vegan option on the menu.
Hogstone’s Wood Oven (Eastsound)
Wood fire pizza at its finest. Our island vegans rave about the smoked tomato sauce pizza with fresh seasonal vegetables – you won’t miss the cheese.
Island Pie (Deer Harbor)
Vegan Bolognese and Vegan Lasagna are scrumptious. Items on appetizer menu can be made vegan. Pizzas can be made vegan with Good Planet mozzarella. GF options, too! (Please order the vegan lasagna w/48 hrs notice so that it can be made oven-fresh for you)
The Kitchen (Eastsound)
Delicious stir fries, and those veggie potstickers? Yes, please.
Lower Tavern (Eastsound)
Now offering a vegan veggie burger! Beyond Burger when in stock, a different vegan burger otherwise. Order dry to make it vegan.
Madrona Bar and Grill
Vegan veggie burger or portobello burger options – order without mayo/cheese and on ciabatta roll to make it vegan. Hummus plate can be made vegan by substituting the pita with a different bread such as baguette or ciabatta. For dinner, they offer a tasty vegan pasta with veggies and olive oil. Nice fresh, big salads, too! Balsamic vinaigrette is deliciously vegan.
Matia (Eastsound)
Newly-opened Matia is quickly becoming a favorite for its exquisitely-prepared plant-based entrees. An ever changing seasonal menu featuring the best available from island farms, regional purveyors, and foraged foods. Enjoy the slow-poached cauliflower dinner with smoked almond milk, local seaweed and crispy brassicas. An inclusive restaurant that can accomodate most food preferences including vegan and gluten-free options. Outdoor, indoor, lounge, and takeaway dining. Full menu available online.
Orcas Food Co-Op Deli (Eastsound)
The Co-Op Deli has a delicious array of plant-based foods in their deli.
For breakfast, they’re offering a Beyond Sausage Roll. Usually at least one of their hot soups is vegan. For lunch/dinner, they have several sandwiches, wraps, salads, and sides that are vegan. And they have increased their vegan treat selection (the vegan brownies pictured above are heavenly!).
Orcas Island Market Deli (Eastsound)
Orcas’ main/mainstream grocery store (which has a terrific selection of vegan products throughout the store) also has a newly remodeled deli and coffee bar. Their coffee bar offers several plant-based milks, including oat milk. The deli bar has one of our faves: 5-Spice Tofu with Kale. Their deli has a good selection of grab ‘n go vegan items like Charlie’s Vegan Breakfast Burrito (in the cold case on your right, just as you walk into the store). They also sell Neato Burrito brand wraps, quinoa salad, sesame noodle salad, Nona Lim brand soups (heat at home), and other items.
Orcas Hotel Cafe (Orcas Landing, near ferry dock)
Daily menu offers several vegan options, including a Buddha-type bowl, changing with the seasons. Specify vegan when ordering. Beyond Burger can be made vegan by substituting the bun with a lettuce wrap. Salads are vegan if ordered without cheese.
Orcas Hotel also offers prix fixe reservation-based dining theme nights, and will happily accommodate vegan modification requests to those menus. Examples include Monday Night Jazz Supper Club and Chef Room – fun!
Otter’s Pond Bed & Breakfast (Rosario-adjacent)
Offering special order vegan cakes in a variety of flavors (see picture above) for any occasion.
In the off-season they also provide meals with usually at least one vegan option on the weekends – look for that again in the fall/winter months!
Pizzeria Portofino (Eastsound)
Pizzas and calzones can be made vegan by requesting no cheese, or they offer Good Planet vegan mozzarella! They also have tasty vegan Thai curry hand-pies which can be ordered hot or for take-and-bake.
Sunday Supper Pop-Up (Eastsound)
A hidden gem option available about twice a month (sometimes more) on Sundays at the Odd Fellows Hall, Sunday Supper Pop-Up has become a darling of the Orcas vegan foodie set. Menu changes every few months and is always gluten-free. Each pop-up menu includes one solid very tasty vegan option.
Past pop-ups have included dishes such as: Veggie Pho & Rice noodle salad, rice paper chips / Smoked Mushroom taco with green apple salsa, fresh fried corn chips with salsa, dairy free horchata. They’re currently serving The Garden Party Patty burger and it comes with vegan aioli & west beach greens.
