Orcas Vegan Food Guide

Orcas Island has some wonderful vegan dining options, and they’re expanding more and more! Here is a guide to help you find delicious plant-based options on the island. (Edited Dec 10, 2020)

Note: Due to COVID-19 and it being the winter season, business hours may vary. Be sure to check the restaurant directly to see what their current days/hours are.

Catkin Cafe (Olga)
Tofu sandwich is quite tasty, and can be vegan when ordered without the aioli. Huevos Rancheros can be made vegan. Select soups are vegan. House-made sourdough bread is vegan, too. Specials often include dishes such as tofu coconut milk curry or tofu noodle salad. Open to vegan requests to modify items on the menu – just ask!

Doe Bay Cafe (Olga)
Emphasis on local, fresh, farm/garden-to-table dishes. Menu changes with the seasons, but there is almost always at least one excellent vegan option on the menu.

Island Pie (Deer Harbor)
Vegan Bolognese and Vegan Lasagna are scrumptious. Items on appetizer menu can be made vegan. Pizzas can be made vegan with Good Planet mozzarella. GF options, too! (Please order the vegan lasagna w/48 hrs notice so that it can be made oven-fresh for you)

The Kitchen (Eastsound)
Delicious stir fries, and those veggie potstickers? Yes, please. 🙂

Lower Tavern (Eastsound)
Now offering a vegan veggie burger! Beyond Burger when in stock, a different vegan burger otherwise. Order dry to make it vegan.

Madrona Bar and Grill
Vegan veggie burger or portobello burger options – order without mayo/cheese and on ciabatta roll to make it vegan. Hummus plate can be made vegan by substituting the pita with a different bread such as baguette or ciabatta. For dinner, they offer a tasty vegan pasta with veggies and olive oil. Nice fresh, big salads, too! Balsamic vinaigrette is deliciously vegan.

Orcas Food Co-Op Deli (Eastsound)
The Co-Op Deli has a delicious array of plant-based foods in their deli, thanks to their excellent crew and to their new Culinary Director, Taryn Kuluris.
Usually at least one of their hot soups is vegan. For breakfast, they’re offering a Beyond Sausage Roll. For lunch/dinner, they have several sandwiches, wraps, salads, and sides that are vegan. And they have increased their vegan treat selection (we recently enjoyed the vegan pumpkin cheesecake mousse, and have heard that the vegan brownies are heavenly!).

Orcas Island Market Deli (Eastsound)
Orcas’ main/mainstream grocery store (which has a terrific selection of vegan products throughout the store) also has a newly remodeled deli and coffee bar. Their coffee bar offers several plant-based milks, including oat milk. Their deli has a good selection of grab ‘n go vegan items like Neato Burrito brand wraps, quinoa salad, sesame noodle salad, Nona Lim brand soups (heat at home), and other items.

Orcas Hotel Cafe (Orcas Landing, near ferry dock)
Daily menu offers Winter Harvest Bowl (we’ve really enjoyed it, and they’re not skimping!), specify vegan when ordering. Beyond Burger can be made vegan by substituting the bun with a lettuce wrap. Salads are vegan if ordered without cheese.

Otter’s Pond Bed & Breakfast (Rosario-ish + Delivery)
Menu: available on their Facebook page or by request in email: host@otterspond.com (they can put you on their menu mailing list). Provides a scrumptious rotating themed menu on weekends (when available), usually with at least one vegan option – and other options can be made vegan by requesting no cheese, etc.

Pizzeria Portofino (Eastsound)
Pizzas and calzones can be made vegan by requesting no cheese, or they offer Good Planet vegan mozzarella! They also have tasty vegan Thai curry hand-pies which can be ordered hot or for take-and-bake.

Voyager Sandwiches (Eastsound)
Menu: Banh Mi sandwich on crusty french bread full of flavorful herbs, veggies, and tofu – and Vietnamese Noodle Salad (Bunh Cha) with tofu can be made vegan by request

Wild Island (Eastsound)
Endless vegan delights on the menu! Order online for same day pickup. Juices, Soups, Wild Bowls, Salads, as well as staples like hummus, granola (so good!) Wild Sauce, Sourdough Bread, and Chocolate Tahini cookies
